Hey guys,

This morning i was talking to my friend about a book that I read the other day called "All the bright places" and it got me thinking.

Thinking about adventures.
Thinking about how we take things for granted.
Thinking about how we don't live forever.

It made me realise that there are so many beautiful and unique places around me that I have never visited and even those that I have visited, how much I take them for granted.

This has made me even more hungry and desperate to go travelling. See the world through different eyes. Make effort to see more of the countryside and big, cities like London and Manchester.

I think the point that I am trying to make is that life is short so grab the opportunity whilst it's still there. Go traveling. Go exploring. Do things and see things that you've never seen before. Don't take anything for granted because you never know when we might take our last breath knowing that we could have done the things we said we will "do later" or "next year".

Starting tomorrow I am going to wake up and be thankful for all the good in my life. Go places I've never been to before and appreciate all the little things in my life that make me happy.

My mum and I have already got a list of places we want to go to soon and I can't wait because starting tomorrow I am going to be a whole new person.

New views.
New opinions.
New adventures.

October 2016 Favorites...

Hey guys,

Today's post is about my October favourites. I know it's not the end of October yet but I've been wanting to write this post for the past couple of days now so I thought why not just do it now.

1)     My Ariat coat - I talked about how amazing this coat is in one of my previous blog post so it is only right that I put this in my first monthly favourites. I've been wearing it everyday for the past month since the weather has gotten colder and it has made me feel all toasty and warm.

2)     Spencer - Without a doubt he is definitely going to be part of my monthly favourites! He is my best friend and I love him with all my heart! He's literally the best horse ever! I see him everyday and he makes me very happy and loved.
This is Spencer - I have done a whole blog post about him too (CLICK HERE to read my post)

3)     All The Bright Places - Oh. My. Goodness. This book is incredible. I bought this with 7 other books that is part of Zoe Sugg's book club and it is the only one I have read so far but I LOVE it. It's about a boy, called Finch, and a girl, called Violet, who meet on the top of the school bell tower where they were about to commit suicide and then from then on they start getting closer. It is a powerful and emotional story because it is all about mental illness and the symptoms of it. It is a very special story that will relate to so many people. I highly recommend that you buy this story because it is so incredibly beautiful.

4)     Volvic strawberry flavoured water - This is a bit of a random favourites but I'm not even joking when I tell you that this is all I have drunk this past month. My skin has improved so much too because I have noticed how clear m skin has got too. I also kind of don't have a choice because I can't drink anything other than water because all of the additives that are in them make me feel very poorly. However, I don't really mind because I am obsessed with this flavored water.

5)     YouTube - This might not be a surprise to many people because I have been watching YouTubers for the past 3/4 years ish and over the past few years I have found more and more incredible channels. Some of my favourite YouTubers are:

  • Zoella
  • PointlessBlog
  • SacconeJolys
  • HayItsMaya
  • Lauren McKinnon
  • Gabriella Lindley
6)     Last but definitely not least Elle King - The most amazing singer I have ever heard. Her voice is incredible and I love her song "Ex's and Oh's". I am obsessed with her album "Love Stuff" and I listen to every song all day everyday because they put me in such a good mood. I love to sing her songs in my head whilst I'm at the stables and riding Spencer because they just put me in an even better mood.

OK that's it. I know that I haven't listed a lot of products but I am sure you won't mind haha!

Question of the day:
What's your favourite thing from this month? Let me know in the comment section below!

Revision tips and techniques...

Hey guys,

So this week has been full of my Y10 Mock exams, which means I have been revising constantly for the past few weeks. Over these past few weeks I have discovered new ways that have helped me revise for my subjects. This has given me the idea to write a blog post about different revision tips and techniques. My revision tips and techniques can be used for any subject so I tend to do the same thing for each of my subjects.

First things first, "tidy space creates tidy mind". Clean your bedroom, office or wherever you are studying. It is impossible to concentrate in a messy environment so spend a short time cleaning your room by putting any litter in the bin and removing any dirty laundry from your "floordrobe".

Once you have cleaned your space, grab a snack, preferably fruit, and a glass of water. Put them on your desk and then you can begin to revise.

1)     Mind maps - Mind maps are one of the most beneficial ways of getting everything you need to know in one place and ready to memorise. I usually put the topic title in the centre or characters names from a play or story then I branch out of that with mini titles. Then off of them mini titles I write an explanation of them and any key quotes or evidence. Then I keep reading over and over them until I remember them. You can also add illustrations to help jog your memory too.

This is my mind map for my English "An Inspector Calls" paper

2)     Flash cards - Flash cards are another great way to remember key words or equations. On one side of the flash card I write the key word or question and then on the other side of the card I write the definition of the key word or answer to the question. Then I either get my friends or mum to read the word out and ill read the answer out or I read the key word myself and try and read the correct answer out without looking.

These are some of my hand written flash cards

These are some flash cards I printed off of Quizlet

3)     Have a folder - Personally I have a ring binder for all of my subjects just for revision. In each folder I have a list of key words for each topic (so for example in my business folder I have a list of my 1.1 key words, 1.2 key words etc) this way you have all of the important key words and definitions in one place. Then in the folders I have lots of past papers to practice answering them. I also have any other pieces of paper that might help me like my mind maps and keywords list.

This is my keywords list that I printed from Quizlet

4)     Past papers - I  cannot stress enough to you guys how much past papers will help you. By practicing past papers you get the general idea of the types of questions that they could ask you. You never know, you might practice a question that could actually be in your exam so you will already no how to answer it to the best of your ability.

5)     Watching YouTube videos - Now, when I say this I mean educational videos. By watching these videos you might learn a new way of doing a technique which could actually help you when it comes to your exam. YouTube videos are also a great way of learning a topic that you are struggling on. So usually what i do is that if I didn't understand something in my lesson, I would write down, either in my school planner or on a piece of paper, what parts I am struggling on and the when I am home I will find a YouTube video on that particular topic and watch it to help me get a better understanding on that topic.

6)     Planners - I have 2 planners. I have a school planner and an Erin Condren planner. Everyone in my school has a planner that gets provided by them and we have to use it and then get our parents to sign it at the end of every week. We use it to keep track of our homework and we write our timetable in it at the start of every year. However, I don't like my school planner as it looks plain and boring so I have purchased an Eric Condren Life Planner. In my planner I write down my subjects and my homework. I also use it as a kind of revision time table so I write down when my exams are and the write what I will revise on what night.

This is my Erin Condren Life Planner

7)     Revision guides - I love revision guides because it has everything that you will need to know in your exam. What I do is a highlight any keywords that are in there and transfer them onto revision cards or turn them into mind maps. The best thing to do with revision guides is to read over them again and again until it sticks in your brain. These are also good for when you might not understand something in your lesson and you can just go home and read over that particular topic.

8)     Revision posters - These are something my teachers let us do in our revision lessons, which is a lesson we usually have before our exam. On these revision posters we put on the most important facts and cover the page in illustrations. These are good for visual learners as it will help you when trying to memorise certain points and topics.

Here are a few links for different revision resources and websites:

Well there you go, my best revision tips and techniques. I hope you found this blog post useful!

Hey guys,

Here are two of my favourite Ariat clothing items that I have purchased and that I am loving right now:

Ariat Ladies Polo

Ariat Ladies Coat

I received the Ariat Polo top for my 14th Birthday last year (2015) and I am in love with it. It's quite thick which means it is perfect for winter however I still wear it in summer too as it stops me getting sunburnt. The red, navy and white really stand out and haven't faded. I have gotten a few stains on it but it was totally easy to wash off in the washing machine. It is one of the best riding tops that I own.

I then received the Ariat coat for my christmas present last christmas (2015). It is perfect for layering on top of jumpers and tops in the winter and can even be used in the cooler times throughout the year as it has perfect ventilation to let your arms and body breathe once the temperature starts rising higher. The two pockets on either side are super spacious so it fits my phone, keys, gloves and treats for Spencer in there perfectly with extra room for anything else I may need to throw in there. It has a hood that can either be rolled up and then stored away using the velcro attachments or you can leave it unravelled for when it starts raining or snowing. It is also waterproof which means you won't get your under layers, like your polo shirt or fleece, soaking wet either. It has a zip that glides smoothly up and down and then gets hidden under the velcro flap that protects the zip from coming down.

I hope you guys check them products out and love them as much as i do. Let me know if you have any other Ariat products that you love or if you have gotten any of the products i mentioned.

Morning walk around the countryside...

Hey guys,

This afternoon has been good so far. Me, my mum and my older brother, who I don't see very much, took the dogs for a walk around the countryside this morning and it was beautiful. The dogs enjoyed running around, swimming in the pond and playing fetch with their brand new tennis ball.

We started off by putting the dogs into the car to take them to pick up my brother. We arrived a short time later at the countryside.

We took the dogs out f the boot of the car and I instantly felt the fresh, crisp air blow across my face. Leaves were all over the ground, crunching under our feet as we started off on our adventure. My whole body was freezing although I don't mind as I soon warmed up once we got going. After throwing the dogs tennis ball for what seemed like forever we let them have a swim in the pond. My little puppy didn't want to go in so he just watched my big dopey dog, on the bank, swim around trying to find his tennis ball that he had some how managed to loose whilst swimming around there. It was very funny watched him dive into the water however it wasn't funny when he came running straight back out and drenched us in dirty pond water (YUCK)!

I think some of us forget about the beautiful countryside as we are stuck inside with our eyes staring at a phone or computer screen for hours on end. That is one of the main reasons why I love horse riding because I spend nearly all my life outdoors, whether it's bringing horses up from the field or simply walking around the yard admiring all the beautiful animals and wildlife.

Our morning walk was so nice and relaxing and gave me, my mum and my brother time to catch up on everything that's been happening in our lives.

I really want to make this a weekly thing where me and my family can have a nice walk around the countryside and a lovely catch up.

Anyway, I thought I'd just give you a  general catch up about how my day has gone so far. I think me and my mum are going to see Spencer soon so I better sign off.

Question of the day:
Have you been for a walk around the countryside recently?

Bye for now, GemsBlog x x x

P.s Don't worry guys - the dogs do get walked everyday (but me and my mum and brother take them around a countryside walk which is a bit further to get too once every couple of weeks) by my step dad. He takes them after he gets home from work. Me and my mum sometimes go with him too but he prefers the peace and quiet. It's like his escape place so we don't really want to interrupt his down time.

Meet Spencer...

Hey guys,

I have wrote a tiny bit about the new edition to my family (Spencer) but I thought it's only right to dedicate a whole blog post to him as he is the best thing that has happened to me and my family in a long time!

On Wednesday 14th September 2016, me and my mum went to view a gorgeous horse who we found online. When we got there we met up with the owner and her mum. They were nice and friendly and very honest about the horse we had come to view. We walked down with the owner to the horses field and there he was. A beautiful grey, chubby pony. He came trotting up to use and the minute we laid our eyes on him we instantly fell in love. He rubbed his head on my shoulder and I gave him a huuuuge hug and a nice juicy carrot. We brought him back to the top, where the car was, and the owner put his tack on and got on him. She walked down to this massive field where she demonstrated how he rides. It was at this point where we knew he was the one for us. After the owner and the horse had a nice ride around the field, they came back to us. My mum rode him before I did as she couldn't wait any longer! She did exactly what the owner did and rode him around the field. I have never seen my mum look so happy in ages. He smile spread across her face and her eyes twinkled with excitement. After my mu had a ride it was finally my turn. I rode him down to the bottom of the field and back and he was so amazing and safe. As it was dark, we decided that it was time ti head back up top. So i stayed on him and we hacked in back up top to where the owners mum was, brushed him, fed him and then took him back to his field to sleep. After a very long conversation with the owner and her mum we agreed that this gorgeous boy was the horse for us and that we wanted to get the opportunity to loan him...

....This horse was Spencer!

On Monday 19th of September, we were able to move him to the yard where we currently are. Unfortunately, I was at school so I missed the whole moving process but I was told that he was good until he saw the trailer, which was kindly driven by the owner of our stables. At this point, my mum said that he looked like a lipizaner stallion (a gorgeous breed of horses who basically do lots of dancing and fancy movements) which I am gutted that I missed that because my mum said that, although he shouldn't have misbehaved like that, he was looking absolutely amazing! After a good 20 minutes they managed to get him onto the trailer and set off home to the stables. My mum took the owner of Spencer in her car and the owner of our stables drove the trailer. As they arrived at the stables, they unloaded him and put him into his new home. Now was the time when I was finally able to go and see him in his new home. So at 3:30pm on that Monday I rang my mum up to find that she was already on her way to pick me up from our house and take me there. So as fast as I could I got changed and waited outside. When I eventually got there, the owner was waiting there for us to arrive back. We stayed there for a good 3 hours because I rode him, my mum rode him and the owner rode him too, we groomed him and then put his rug on and put him to bed, whilst giving him lots of cuddles, kisses and tasty treats! Then it was time to take the owner back to her house and then we went home to our house. Unfortunately, the owner of Spencer moved away to Manchester, England last weekend (9th October 2016) which means she wont be able to see him as much however me and my mum have told her that we are happy for her to come whenever she likes and whenever she wants to ride him or give him cuddles and treats. She also told me that, when me and Spencer start doing competitions, she wants me to let her know so that she can come and watch and show support.

Since the me and my mum have been improving his fitness, riding him nearly everyday of the week, apart from Tuesdays and Fridays, and trying to help him get rid of his excess weight. He has settled in to his home and has been making friends with lots of the other horses and ponies (and the other animals and humans too). Everybody hear loves him and I can't wait to see what the future holds for us!!!

Fact file about Spencer:

  • He is a Fell X
  • He is grey with black leg markings
  • He is 14.2hh
  • He is 14 years old (like me haha)
  • He is a very happy chap who loves attention, food and posing for the camera
  • He doesn't like tractors
  • He does like to be playing in the field with his lady friends

Question of the day:
Has anything excited happened to you recently? If so let me know in the comments below :-)

P.s Do keep sending your comments in as I have loved reading them and getting to know you guys better! Have a good day everyone! :-)

Hey guys,

In this post I am going to talk to you about something that will probably be the death of me.......STRESS! (Ok so maybe I am being a little bit dramatic by saying it will be the death of me but guys I am that stressed I think I deserve to be dramatic from time to time !!!!)

Ok, so like I said in one of my previous posts, I have been through more than any other 14 year old girl should go through but this has lead me to get extremely stressed to the point where I could literally kick off about dropping my pen on the floor! For me, stress is a very annoying thing because it leaves me with ridiculously bad headaches and I end up stressing about how stressed I am (if you get what I mean).

Here's an example of how stressed I get over silly things:

I was in my business class the other week and we had to do a quiz on a website our school uses to track our progress and we had to get higher than 80% (which is equivalent to a grade B). However if you didn't get 80% you had to keep taking the quiz over and over again until you got that percentage. Now, taking Business studies for my GCSE's is possibly one of the worst decisions in my school life because, although it "will be useful in our later life" (as my business studies teacher continues to repeat this over and over and over again to me every lesson), it is the most boring and difficult subject I have picked! In the quiz I was getting scores around 30% and this aggravated me so much because no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't get that score I needed. So, of course, I became stressed. I sat staring at my computer screen for around 10 minutes trying not to walk out of the classroom. I eventually told sir "I can't do this. It's driving me crazy" and by this time sir new how stressed I was (probably because of the way I said it or because I looked like my head was about to explode). He replied "what bit can't you do" so i responded "All of it. It's too hard". This didn't help the situation at all because sir just replied with "Just try it again" which is one of the most annoying and frustrating thing teachers say simply because I had tried taking the quiz 28 times (to be exact) and for some reason I wasn't getting the score I needed which only got me more stressed and I ended up with a big ass headache for the rest of the day.

So yeah.....I think you understand how stressed I get. However, over the past few days I have found some ways that calm me down when I am having a "mid - life crisis" (which is what I usually tell my teacher when I'm stressed). So I thought I'd share some of my tips to help any of you reading.

1) Just breathe - Wherever you are just take a minute and breathe. Take 10 big deep breaths in and out until you can feel yourself relaxing again.

2) Block it out - Whilst your doing your breathing exercises (see step 1),block out whatever it is that is causing you to be stressed, whether it is an exam you're currently sitting or you're at work and the boss has put a huge stack of paper in front of you that he expects you to read through by the end of the day, just clear your thoughts and focus on the sound of your breath.

3) Leave - If things get really bad and step 1 and step 2 don't work just take yourself out of the situation by leaving the room (obviously not in the middle of an exam or important meeting) and focus on your breathing techniques outside where you have peace and quiet. If you're in a lesson and those 2 steps didn't work because the environment was too loud, just put your hand up and ask your teacher if you can have a minute outside of the classroom. Your teacher should not say "no" because they aren't meant to keep you inside if you are feeling stressed or anxious etc and if your teacher comes outside to talk to you just tell them how you are feeling and that it's all getting on top of you so you just need a minute to clear your head and then go back into the classroom with a PMA (which stands for Positive Mental Attitude - It is something that I like to say a lot especially when I am having a bad day. It's kind of like "Hakuna Matata" from Lion King which means no worries for the rest of your days!).

4) Talk to someone - If things get to the point where you are so stressed you don't feel like you can handle it, just know that there is always someone who you can talk to, whether that is a teacher, a friend,a parent or a councillor. Just know that there is always going to be someone who will offer you a shoulder to cry on etc.

I wish someone had told me these steps a long time ago because there has been times where I've felt like crap and felt like I was going to stay stressed for the rest of my life. However I am just glad that I know them now because the next time I get stressed (which let's face it - it will probably be tomorrow knowing me) I can follow these 4 steps and I will manage to get through it.

I hope this post will help any of you reading this. If you have any tips for helping others through stressful times or even any ways to prevent stress, please leave them in the comments so myself and others can use them too!

Questions of the day:
When were you last stressed out and what did you do to calm yourself down?

By for now, GemsBlog x x x

P.s I have just read back through my post and realised how many times I have said the word "stressed" and I'm not going to lie but it did drive me crazy! Sorry if it annoyed any of you guys lol :)

P.p.s - The images on this blog post do not belong to me nor do I take credit for them!

Hello October....

Hey Guys,

IT'S FINALLY OCTOBER.....and you know what that means.....Halloween, Crispy fresh air, Bonfire night, (then my birthday obvs) and then finally CHRISTMAS!

October, November and December are my favorite months. Don't get me wrong, I love love love summer and all however I adore this time of the year and here's why:

1) Big, cuddly clothes - OMG I love wrapping up warm in a big knitted cardigan with a nice big fluffy coat and some cute boots! I love to wear chunky coats with big furry hoods as I love to snuggle in them, especially around the fire whilst roasting marshmallows! I mean who doesn't love to roast big marshmallows then cover them in melted chocolate and watch the fire crackle away all night long?!?!

2) Fresh air - Now, having the opportunity to work with horses has made me appreciate the fresh crisp air in these months as it is so lovely and clean (and even better when wrapped up in a big, fluffy coat) and it also makes it easier to ride in because as nice as the weather is in summer it can be a big pain in the butt when trying to go for a ride because it makes you all hot and sweaty (not a sexy look - trust me!) and having the cold fresh air is so fun to ride in because you aren't actually too tired to get on and ride and then you can have even longer lessons!

3) Halloween - I absolutely L O V E Halloween so much (mainly because you get free chocolate and sweets whilst wearing cool scary costumes haha) but mainly because I love binge watching scary movies with my friends and family and around the halloween period there are so many amazing new horror films that come out in cinemas!

4) Bonfire night - WooHoo !!! The best part about bonfire night is watching the fireworks shoot high into the air and explode into beautiful and bright colours, filling the dark night sky! Sparklers are even better! I'm like a big kid, running around everywhere making pretty patterns in the air with my sparkler! Some years my mum and stepdad even buy fireworks to set off in our back garden (don't worry though we are super safe and no one is in danger) and its such a beautiful sight seeing all bright colours from our back garden don't you think?

5) My Birthday - The best time of the month! I love my birthday because my family know how to make it special....nice meal, big cake, lots of lovely wishes from everyone! This year we are going for a nice meal and, because it is on a saturday (YAY) we are going to go to the stables and i'll have a birthday ride on Spencer! I honestly couldn't ask for anything else because that is just my idea of perfection!

6) CHRISTMAS!!!!! - YAYAYAYAYAYAY! My favourite time of the year! It's amazing because everybody is happy, I get to spend lots of time with my family, putting the christmas tree up, christmas music, giving people gifts and watching their faces light up when they tare off the wrapping paper with excitement and OMG how could I mum's amazing christmas dinner, which is hands down the best part about christmas day!

I could go on and on about Christmas and my birthday etc but lets concentrate on the present not the future......

I love waking up in the mornings and walking down the street, hearing the crunching of the leaves under my feet and breathing in nice, fresh, crisp air! It is now officially autumn! The trees are looking so beautiful at the minute with their leafless branches just stood there waving in the autumn breeze! I have also noticed that my local supermarket have stocked up with pumpkins already which makes me super excited for halloween! Oh yes...Halloween! Halloween is at the end of this month and I am suuuuuper excited! Me and my friends have already started frightening ourselves by watching scary films, Insidious 1,2 & 3, Paranormal activity, Babadook and many more to get into the proper halloween spirit! So far, I haven't got any plans for Halloween however me and my 2 best friends are looking at possibly going to a Halloween Scarefest Park that's meant to be so scary and fun!

Anyway I better stop rambling on and on about how much I love this time of year!

Question of the day:
What is your favourite part about October, November and December?

Be sure to leave your answer in the comments so I can have a read through and get to know you guys better!!!

Bye for now GemsBlog x x x

Ps - If you haven't guessed already....I am sat here listening to christmas music, Michael Buble of course, because I am in the christmas mood after writing this post! And yes I am fully aware that it is only October but I actually can't control my excitement and i am probably going to watch Elf (which is hands down the best Christmas film going) after I have finished writing this haha!
